Civitar Cookie Policy
Last updated: 2026-06-22 · Operated by Pinnalux LLC dba Civitar
This policy explains how civitar.org uses cookies and similar browser storage (localStorage), and the choices you have. We keep this deliberately small because Civitar is an informational platform and uses no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Your choice
When you first visit civitar.org you'll see a banner letting you Accept or Reject non-essential cookies. Your choice is saved in your browser and applies on return visits. You can change it any time via "Cookie settings" in the site footer.
- Reject (the default until you choose): only strictly necessary storage is
used. Nothing optional is loaded.
- Accept: in addition to the necessary items, we may enable the optional
categories below (analytics) if and when they are introduced.
We do not load any non-essential cookie or script before you opt in.
Categories
1. Strictly necessary (always on). Required for the site to function and to remember your cookie choice. These do not track you.
civitar_cookie_consent(localStorage): records your Accept/Reject choice and
the date you made it.
- UI preferences (localStorage): e.g. your Free/Monitor view toggle and
plain-language-popover setting, so the page behaves as you left it.
civitar_session(cookie): the secure, HttpOnly session token that keeps you
signed in. Essential — set only after you sign in.
- Offline app cache (Cache Storage, via a service worker): when you install
Civitar to your home screen or simply use the site, the app may cache pages and data on your device for offline access and performance. This is local to your device and is not tracking; you can clear it any time via your browser or site settings.
2. Analytics (optional — off unless you Accept). Aggregate, privacy-respecting usage measurement to understand which features help people. None are active today. If we add analytics, they will only load after you Accept, and this policy will be updated to name the provider.
3. Payments (only when you subscribe). If you start a paid subscription, our payment processor Stripe sets cookies that are strictly necessary to process the transaction securely and prevent fraud. These are only set on the checkout / subscription flow, not on general browsing. See Stripe's privacy policy at https://stripe.com/privacy.
What we do NOT use
- No advertising or marketing cookies.
- No cross-site / third-party tracking pixels (no Meta Pixel, no ad networks).
- No selling or sharing of personal information for advertising.
